BACCHANALES
A Gastronomic Experience in Lyon Bacchanales was born from the desire to create a tailor-made space where we could welcome our guests as if they were attending a festive dinner—an experience infused with the refined yet slightly nostalgic ritual of French hospitality. It is a place of character, warmth, and genuine attention to detail, shaped by the shared passion of two enthusiasts.
At its heart, Bacchanales is a celebration of Haute Cuisine, a tribute to the Alchemical art of broths, jus, and sauces. This intricate culinary Craftsmanship, which may seem elaborate by today’s standards, remains a fundamental source of inspiration for Jean-Baptiste.
His vision? To refine and modernize these timeless techniques, offering a menu driven not by fleeting creativity but by deep-seated passion.
The name Bacchanales is, of course, a nod to Bacchus, Wine’s Roman god, another central theme of the restaurant and a shared passion of its two founders. Jérôme, a fervent seeker of uncompromising Winemakers, curates a selection as bold and authentic as his own philosophy. The name also subtly references the cult of Dionysus, Bacchus’s Greek counterpart—a deity of controlled chaos and ecstatic revelry. In a setting as meticulously curated as ours, we invite you to discover the hidden truth behind this allusion…
Located on the upper floor of a historic building dating back to October 1643, Bacchanales offers an intimate and refined atmosphere, enveloped in the sounds of Early Music. Here, time slows down, inviting you to surrender to the pleasure of a single, carefully crafted Tasting Menu. Trust us, let yourself be surprised by a cuisine inspired by the Grand Culinary Traditions, yet reimagined with a light touch—organic, local, and proudly locavore.
This is a philosophy we embrace with conviction, yet, without dogmatism. Our specialty? Truffles from Tricastin, melanosporum or brumale, when in season.
We are proud members of the Collège Culinaire de France, of the Disciples Internationaux d’Escoffier and have been awarded by Gault & Millau “Deux Toques”.
Nestled in the Ainay district, at the heart of Lyon’s 2nd arrondissement—between Bellecour and Carnot Perrache—Bacchanales is easily accessible by metro (Ampère Victor Hugo station). We also offer a partnership with the nearby Parc Ainay parking facility, ensuring a reserved spot at a fixed rate, regardless of your vehicle size. Our gastronomic restaurant welcomes you from Tuesday to Saturday evening from 7:30 PM (last order at 9 PM), as well as on Saturday for lunch (last order at 1:30 PM).
Downstairs, our wine bar invites you to indulge in beautifully curated sharing plates—sometimes quintessentially Lyonnais, always seasonal, and staunchly locavore.
